A Romantic Paris Engagement Photo Shoot on a Summer Afternoon

Grainy Soul Photos

Paris has a way of turning ordinary afternoons into scenes you want to remember, especially when you’re wandering the city with someone you love. When N first found me on Instagram, she already had a vision. She and A were planning a summer trip to Europe, and Paris was one of the stops. What A didn’t know yet was that this Paris engagement photo shoot was N’s surprise gift – something designed to feel like their own romantic comedy unfolding across the city.

Planning the Paris Engagement Photo Shoot

From our very first call, it was clear this wasn’t meant to be a traditional engagement session. N wanted something playful, lived-in, and full of motion. Less “stand here and smile,” more running, dancing, wandering, and letting the city become part of the story. We talked through neighbourhoods, how the afternoon might flow, and how to keep the experience fun rather than overplanned.

Outfits played a big role in shaping that feeling. We decided on two looks to reflect different sides of Paris. One was elegant and romantic, reserved for moments with the Eiffel Tower in view, because if you’re in Paris, it deserves its place in the story. The second look leaned into a casual, chic, city-rom-com vibe. A mini grey skirt and white tank top for her, layered with a cardigan for when it cooled down. For him, a white vest paired with relaxed grey trousers – effortless, comfortable, and perfect for moving through the city on a warm summer afternoon.

The Day of the Photo Shoot

I travelled from Amsterdam to Paris to capture their story, and we started where the city feels most alive – at a café terrace, tucked in close while the streets buzzed around us. From there, we let movement lead. We took the metro together, photographing inside the station and on the train, catching unexpected glimpses of the Eiffel Tower along the way. The commute became part of the narrative, like those quick, in-between scenes that make a film feel real.

We surfaced in the Passy area and wandered without rushing. Walking, laughing, breaking into little dances on quiet streets, running across crossings, and pausing whenever something caught their attention. The tower appeared in the background here and there, never dominating the frame, just quietly reminding us where we were.

As the afternoon grew busier near the Eiffel Tower, we made a conscious decision not to go right up to it. Instead, we crossed to the other side of the Seine, where things felt calmer. Fewer people, more space, and a view that allowed the moment to breathe. They changed into their elegant outfits there, and the energy shifted naturally – less bustling city, more ease and connection.

We ended the session strolling along the Seine, dancing a little, talking about nothing and everything, fully caught up in the moment. Somewhere along the way, three hours disappeared without anyone noticing. And honestly, that’s always the best sign. When a session stops feeling like a shoot and starts feeling like a day you don’t want to end.

If this sounds like something you’d love, a session that feels playful, personal, and shaped around how you naturally move together, this might be exactly what I love to create. I travel across Europe throughout the year, and if our dates and locations align, you’re welcome to book a couple session during my travel dates without any additional travel fees. For elopements, I’m always happy to travel wherever your story takes you. Couple sessions in locations I’m not already visiting are also possible, though travel fees may apply.

I take on a limited number of sessions each year so I can give every couple the time, care, and creative energy they deserve. If this resonates with you, you can reach out through the inquiry form and tell me more about what you’re dreaming up. Let’s see if our paths align.
