A Playful 90s-themed Couple Photo Shoot at Cadini di Misurina, Dolomites

Grainy Soul Photos

When we first started planning a storytelling session for E + K, Cadini di Misurina was the very first place that came to mind in Dolomites. Not because it’s iconic or dramatic in the obvious way, but because it felt like a perfect match for them. Their energy is warm, playful, and effortlessly bright. The kind that needs space to move and breathe rather than a single spot to perform in front of.

Cadini, especially in early summer, offers exactly that. Just after sunrise, the Dolomites feel open and optimistic. The air is already pleasantly warm, the sky clear, and the light has this crisp, sunlit quality that instantly brings back memories of old 90s travel magazines; adventurous, joyful, and unpolished in the best way. We weren’t chasing sunrise itself, but that moment right after, when the day feels like it’s just getting started.

Long before the session day, most of the magic happened in the prep. We talked through locations, logistics, and spent time exploring outfit ideas. We wanted something that felt sporty, nostalgic, and fun, with just a touch of editorial influence.

After considering a few different options, we landed on a look that felt perfectly in tune with both the landscape and the couple’s energy. Sporty white shoes grounded the outfits, while earthy green hiking pants paired with a butter-yellow sleeveless zip-up top brought warmth and brightness to her look. His outfit stayed simple and intentional with tailored shorts, a classic white tee, and a light red wind jacket that added a subtle pop of colour and nodded beautifully to that 90s travel magazine feel. The palette was carefully chosen to complement the mountains and work effortlessly with the bright alpine light.

We leaned into the story even more with accessories. Hiking backpacks and poles grounded the session in movement and adventure, while 90s-style sunglasses tied everything together and felt right at home under the strong mountain sun. Nothing felt forced or overly styled. Just thoughtful details that elevated the narrative.

The Day of the Photo Shoot

Cadini di Misurina does require planning, and that mattered more than anything on the day. Parking restrictions mean permits need to be purchased in advance, and having that sorted ahead of time meant we could arrive calm and unhurried. Even then, the famous viewpoint already had a line forming. We walked up, admired it, and quickly realised waiting didn’t match the story we were telling. So we stepped away from the main trail and followed the light instead.

That’s where everything clicked. With no pressure and no crowds, E + K fell into their natural rhythm. Walking, laughing, teasing each other, pausing to take in the view. It felt less like a photoshoot and more like witnessing a shared memory being made. The Dolomites stretched out endlessly around us, offering rolling ridges, soft meadows, and dramatic drops, each one unfolding like a new scene.

As the sun climbed higher, the trails slowly filled with more hikers. It was only when we finally turned back that we realised how far we’d wandered from the parking lot. But the adrenaline from such a fun session carried us easily. We spent the walk back talking about the little in-between moments and how effortlessly the morning had come together.

Once we reached the car, we drove down the mountain in that satisfied, sun-soaked haze and went to grab brunch. Passing the parking area now filled with tour buses made us even more grateful for that quiet early start. A morning that felt peaceful, personal, and entirely our own.

If reading this made you picture yourselves in the middle of your own little story — laughing, moving, soaking it all in, and forgetting there’s even a camera around, then this might be exactly your kind of thing. I create relaxed, story-driven sessions that feel playful, nostalgic, and full of life, with just enough direction to turn real moments into something that feels beautifully cinematic.

I travel across Europe throughout the year, and if our dates and locations align, you’re welcome to book a couple session during my travel dates without any additional travel fees. For elopements, I’m always happy to travel wherever your story takes you. Couple sessions in locations I’m not already visiting are also possible, though travel fees may apply.

I take on a limited number of sessions each year so I can give every couple the time, care, and creative energy they deserve. If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to reach out through the inquiry form and tell me more about what you’re dreaming up. Let’s see if our paths align.
